Starship, which is also known as BFR (Big Falcon Rocket or Big Fat Rocket) will be a fully-reusable launch vehicle capable of interplanetary transport.
The Starship text flights are scheduled to start in mid-2019, and the current prototype will be as wide as the final version which will go to mars, but shorter.
The privately onwned SpaceX is funding the design and build of the Starship through space tourism, with the first private lunar passenger , Japanese billionaire Yusaka Maezawa, scheduled to fly around the moon in 2023.
SpaceX also plans to send the first cargo mission to Mars in 2022 with the objective of confirming water resources, identification of hazards, and place the equipment for initial power, mining, and life support infrastructure for following manned missions.
A second mission targeted for 2024, will carry both cargo and personnel aboard with the objective of building a propellant depot and preparing for further manned missions.
The ships that will travel to Mars will be re-used to build the first Mars base.
