Samsung is planning completely replace plastic materials used for packaging electronics with paper and other recyclable or environmentally sustainable elements.
The move, which sets welcome precedent for the electronics industry which sells billion of units of equipment a year, will definitely have a positive impact and also set a trend.
The measures will begin in the first half of 2019 and will affect Samsung’s full range of products and accessories including mobile phones, tablets, and home appliances.
More paper and pulp, less plastic
Samsung Electronics is stepping up in addressing society’s environmental issues such as resource depletion and plastic wastes
Several small products that usually come in plastic holders like phone, tablet, etc. will come in pulp molds and wrapping bags will be made of eco-friendly materials.
Even the glossy exterior of phones which comes with a plastic protection film will be replaced with a matte finish eliminating the needs for such protective material.
Plastics will be generally replaced by bioplastics that are biodegradable, and Samsung also stated they will use paper materials certified by global environmental organisations.
