Apple’s 5G iPhone will hit the markets in 2020, sources say.
Fastcompany reports that Intel will be the sole provider of thethe 5G iPhone modems, Apple plans to use Intel manufactured 8161 modem chips.
The protype of 5G iPhone will use 8060, which is the precursor to 8161, being tested by Intel currently.
It’s not all roses though, with Fast Company’s sources saying Apple is “unhappy” with Intel due to their failure to solve heating and battery life issues.
There are reports about Apple holding discussions with MediaTek as the reserve option. However, there are no indications of renegotiations with QualComm with their legal dispute escalating.
The first 5G handsets are expected to start shipping early next year, 2019.
