Foldable phones have arrived
While many considered it a pipe dream, foldable phones have been a long time coming, with
Samsung first teased and then finally revealed the much awaited foldable phone at SDC, with a 7.3″ display, called Infinity Flex Display. A foldable screen requires the engineers to solve several hardware and software problems, to overcome some of these, Samsung came up with a redesigned UI named One UI working closely with Google and Android.
Official Android Support from Google
Glen Murphy, who is Director and Head of Android UX at Google, highlighted Google’s deep partnership with Android and announced that Android will add native support for the flexible phones, bringing in a natural transition from two screen phone to one screen phone and vice-versa.
Android is optimising it’s OS for this new form factor of foldable screen.
Definitely a sign of things to come, with more foldables expected in near term, starting with Samsung which plans to launch its first next year.
